I made a web application, everybody! It is called Scripture Scratcher!
Let me explain. I have been really getting into scripture study as of late. Mostly so that I can sneer and self-righteously look down on folk that haven’t been really getting into scripture study of late. Pearly gates, here I come.
Anyway, a nice scripture study technique is by topic, and while they have some really great topics over at lds.org, there isn’t a convenient way to get all of the scriptures referenced in each topic onto one page. I felt like this was majorly hampering my ability to seriously study, so I wrote a little Python script to help me out. It finds scripture references in free-running text, organizes them and displays the verses. Ha ha, computers are great!
This was fun, but not terribly usable, so I spent some more time writing an interface to the program using JavaScript, HTML and CSS and then slapped it all together into an App Engine application so that I could use it wherever and whenever. This means that you can use it too! I mean … if you want to … or whatever.
Maybe it can help you with preparing to teach a lesson! Maybe it can help you as you study general conference talks! Maybe it can help you to really show all the old cows in your book club who the real master scriptorian is! Maybe!
